How to apply for Claude for Startups, and how to get approved

Anthropic expanded its Claude for Startups program on October 6, 2026. You no longer need a VC referral to apply: bootstrapped teams can apply directly from the Claude Console. This guide covers what you get, who qualifies, the application steps and the things Anthropic says it looks at, using Anthropic's own pages, plus approval tips from a founder who got in.

Short version: if your startup was founded in the last 5 years or raised money in the last 2, sign in to the Claude Console with an email on your company domain, describe concretely what you build with Claude, and apply. Most decisions come within minutes; manual reviews take 2 to 3 business days.

What approved startups get

The official program page lists these benefits:

Anthropic's expansion post values the Anthropic-side package at up to $7,000 (the Team year plus the $1,000 credit). Partner offers are made by independent companies, not by Anthropic.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Create or sign in to a Claude Console account (platform.claude.com) using your company email.
  2. Open the application from the "Apply now" button on claude.com/programs/startups and fill in the form.
  3. Wait for the email. Most applications are decided within minutes; ones sent to manual review usually take 2 to 3 business days.
  4. If you are accepted, the email links to the Claude Startups page in the Console. Claim the Team offer and the $1,000 credit there.
  5. If Anthropic asks for a signed affidavit and a publicity and liability release, return them within 14 calendar days or the benefits can be forfeited.
  6. Backed by a partner-network VC? Ask your investor how to claim the extra credits; Anthropic says this goes through the VC.

10 tips from a founder who was approved

Founder Eric Cosulea says he was approved almost immediately and shared these 10 tips on X. He is clear that he cannot say how Anthropic decides each application; the point is to make yours easy to understand and verify. Where a tip matches an official requirement or a factor in Anthropic's terms, we note it.

  1. Check that you qualify first. The expanded program covers startups founded in the last 5 years or funded in the last 2. Check the current requirements on the official page before you spend an hour polishing answers.
  2. Use your company email. One that matches your website domain, which is an official requirement. You also need a Claude Console account, which is separate from the regular Claude chat app.
  3. Make sure your website explains the business. Someone should understand what you do and for whom without contacting you. "Building the future with AI" gives a reviewer very little to go on.
  4. Make the application match the website. If you are applying with a new product under an existing company, explain how the two relate. Do not make anyone guess why the company, domain and product names differ.
  5. Be specific about what you are building. "An AI-powered education platform" could mean almost anything. "A tool that answers questions from recorded expert talks and links each answer to the relevant timestamp" is something a person can actually picture.
  6. Explain where Claude fits. What goes in, what Claude does, and what the user gets back. You should be able to say it in a few sentences without the word "revolutionary". Anthropic's terms list Claude integration and usage among the factors it weighs.
  7. Be honest about your current stage. If the integration is planned, say it is planned. Explain what exists today and what you will build next; pretending everything is live only creates inconsistencies.
  8. Include the traction you actually have. Users, customers, revenue, an existing audience or relevant work you have already done, with specific numbers you can back up. If you have not launched yet, say so. Traction and funding are also listed factors in the terms.
  9. Answer the use-case questions accurately. Including the questions about minors and about medical, legal or financial use. Do not pick an answer because someone on X said it gets you approved faster; selection is subject to verification and inaccurate applications can be disqualified.
  10. Read it through as a stranger. Could someone understand the company, the product, the customers and Claude's role? Or would they need context that currently only exists in your head?

None of this guarantees approval. But making a real business easy to understand is a better use of your time than hunting for magic wording.

Common claims that are wrong or out of date

"Approved startups get a free year of Claude Pro"

Viral posts often put it this way. The official benefit is a free year of Claude Team with up to five Premium seats, and only for organizations that have never had a Team plan. It is a Team workspace, not an individual Pro subscription.

"You need a VC to get in"

Not any more. The FAQ says bootstrapped, pre-seed and venture-backed startups can all apply. VC backing only matters for the extra partner-VC credits.

"Every startup gets $25K or $100K in credits"

The official amount for every approved company is $1,000. Up to $100K is only available through partner-network VCs. Bigger flat figures quoted on third-party sites are not on Anthropic’s page.

"You must be under 4 years old and institutionally funded"

Older third-party guides describe those rules. The current page says founded in the last 5 years or funded in the last 2, bootstrapped included.

"The credits work on Bedrock or Vertex AI"

No. They only work on Anthropic’s first-party API through the Console.

"Teams that already pay for Claude Team get a free year"

No. The Team offer is only for organizations that have never had a Team plan.
