Muse Code plans: what each one includes
Everyday Usage: about $5/month
10-50 prompts every 5 hours, incl. image and video uploads; voice mode; web search. Meta pitches it as "best for shipping your first projects". The plan includes access to the latest Muse models.
High Usage: $15/month
Everything in Everyday Usage with 5x the usage, more prompts and more multimodal inputs. Meta's pitch: "best for bigger, code-heavy projects".
Power Usage: $50/month
20x the Everyday Usage allowance, multi-agent by default, early access to new features and higher file upload limits.
Hitting the limit: limits refresh in 5-hour windows. When you run out, you upgrade to the next plan or wait for the refresh. Usage through extra Meta Model API keys is billed separately, pay-as-you-go.

The 12.5x price gap is the price of your data. In Meta's words, the Contributor tier offers "heavily discounted token pricing in exchange for permission to use your prompts and completions to train future Meta models." Standard is the regular Model API rate without that permission. If you work on company code, that decision is usually made for you.

Pay-per-token usage is charged when your balance reaches your payment threshold, and automatically on the first of each month. Reasoning tokens are billed as output, so a higher /effort setting costs more.

Subscription or pay per token? A worked example
Take a typical task on a medium (10k-100k lines) codebase: about 150k input tokens (with60% served from cache) and 12k output tokens. Our estimate:

So on Standard, if you run fewer than about 108 such tasks a month, paying per token beats the High plan. These are estimates from our assumptions, not measured bills; your token use per task can differ a lot.
Is Muse Code free?
No. The CLI is free to download from dev.meta.ai, but Meta lists no free usage tier. Every session is billed, by plan or per token.
How to spend less on Muse Code
- Use Muse Spark 1.3: Meta says it needs about 25% fewer tokens and 20% fewer tool calls for the same work (vendor claim).
- Run
/compactin long sessions to shrink the context you pay for. - Lower the reasoning effort (
/effort) for simple tasks: reasoning tokens bill as output. - Keep tasks scoped. A focused task reads fewer files, which means fewer input tokens.
- Start on pay-per-token, look at a month of usage, then decide whether a plan is cheaper.
- Use Contributor only for personal or open-source code you are happy to share.

How much does Muse Code cost per month?
High Usage is $15/month and Power Usage is $50/month. The entry Everyday Usage plan is around $5/month (confirm on Meta's page). You can also pay per token instead of subscribing.
Is the Contributor tier safe for work code?
Only if your employer allows it. Contributor ($0.1 per 1M input tokens) is discounted in exchange for permission for Meta to use your prompts and completions to train future Meta models. For company code, use the Standard tier at $1.25 per 1M input tokens.
What happens when I hit my plan limit?
Meta's docs say you can upgrade to the next plan, or wait until your limit refreshes. Plan limits work in 5-hour windows.
Is there a free tier?
Meta lists no free usage allowance. Installing Muse Code is free; usage is billed by plan or per token.
Do the plans include Spark 1.3?
Plans include "access to the latest Muse models". Muse Spark 1.3 replaced Muse Spark 1.2 as the default on 2026-09-02.
Is Muse Code cheaper than Claude Code?
On sticker price, yes: Muse Code plans start lower than Claude Code's cheapest paid plan (about $20/month). What you get per dollar depends on your workload.
What's the cheapest way to use Muse Code?
For very light use, the Contributor token tier costs about $0.009 per typical task in our estimate, if you accept that Meta may train on your prompts and code. Otherwise start with the Everyday Usage plan or Standard pay-per-token.
Are API keys billed against my plan?
No. Usage through additional API keys created under your Meta Model API account is billed separately, pay-as-you-go.
