ChatGPT Intelligent UI: what it is and prompts to try
On October 7, 2026 OpenAI brought GPT-6 to ChatGPT with a new answer format it calls Intelligent UI: instead of only text, answers can include graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and small interactive tools. Free and Go users started getting it on October 8.
What Intelligent UI is
GPT-6 in ChatGPT chooses how to present an answer around the task. OpenAI says responses can now combine text, visuals and interactive elements, and that a simple text answer is still used when it is the most useful format.
- Everyday questions. A Sunday roast timing plan next to the recipe, or road-trip stops shown on a map.
- Learning. Interactive explainers, for example on the central limit theorem, GDP, drone photography or the Monty Hall problem.
- Tools made by asking. A savings calculator, a dinner bill splitter or a small retro game, built inside the chat.
- Structured breakdowns. OpenAI's bicycle demo splits a 7-speed bike into tabs (frame, wheels, drivetrain, brakes, cockpit) you can click through.

The release covers the Chat tab only. OpenAI says the models behind Work and Codex do not change with it. The rollout is global but gradual, so it can take a few days to show up on your account.

GPT-6 Luna vs Sol: the difference
- In ChatGPT you do not pick between them: your plan decides. OpenAI says both are tuned for everyday conversation.
- In the API, Luna costs $0.10 / $0.50 per 1M input / output tokens and Sol $2 / $10, so Luna is a twentieth of the price.
- OpenAI reports Luna at 66.6% on DeepSWE v1.1 against 68.8% for Sol, so the gap on coding is small. The bigger difference shows on long, hard tasks.

OpenAI does not publish which questions produce which components. These prompts are our own, modelled on the examples OpenAI shows. Each one names the format it wants, which is the most reliable way to get it. Copy one, then change the details.

How it works
- OpenAI trained GPT-6 to mix text, visuals and interactive elements in one answer, using a library of native components that stream in while the answer is written.
- Parts of the interface can appear before the answer is finished, and ChatGPT can start answering while it is still thinking.
- OpenAI says GPT-6 Instant starts answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant.

What OpenAI has not said
- There is no documented switch to turn Intelligent UI off. Ask for "plain text only" if you need text to copy.
- OpenAI mentions web and mobile; it does not say anything specific about the desktop apps.
- There is no list of supported components, and no developer API for Intelligent UI was announced.
